Reality Creation with The Moon… for The Revolution

Reality Creation with The Moon… for The Revolution

Our friends at Conscious Clothing have brought this dream of a Moon Calendar to the collective. But why do we need a Moon Calendar—and why now?

So that we can care for the world, sustainably. That’s my short answer.

My name is Rev Mariela. Rev stands for both Revolutionary and Reverent. I’m reverent to many things, but especially to the Moon. In astrology (from my studies and lineage), the Moon is associated with care, nurturance, and the nervous system.

We understand the Moon as “the Mother” because the energy of the Moon—in our physical bodies—is the psychosomatic aspect of the Self and the impulse in all of us to care, to do something for the betterment of the world, but in a sustainable way.

Our Moon placement reveals how we care—for ourselves and for the world.

Modern pop astrology focuses too much on the Sun sign. And the Sun is great! But the Sun is way over there, quite distant actually, while the Moon is much closer—its embodied pull directly affects our energy, our emotions, our nervous system.

The job of the Moon is to take in the light of the Sun and reflect that energy back to us—to support us and our work in the world. (And when I say “our work in the world,” I mean our care for the world.)

Throughout the centuries, people have worked with the energy of the Moon to create reality. In fact, if you look far enough back, most of our ancestors followed lunar calendars—until colonizers imposed the Gregorian calendar, which disconnected our bodies from the Moon’s cycles. This imposition brought tremendous dysregulation to our nervous systems, forcing us to work and use our energy in an “unnatural” rhythm.

In more recent times, we often hear about people using the cycles of the Moon to “manifest” or set goals. That never fully resonated with me.

What I personally like to use the energy of the Moon for is to tap into that impulse to care—for myself and others, sustainably, through my own nervous system.

I call this: Reality Creation with The Moon Mother.

And it looks like this:

During the New Moon I have very little energy and prefer solitude. I’m actually not very good company during the New Moon. I feel my shadows deeply (and the shadows of the world). It’s not necessarily comfortable, but it gives me clarity—it shows me where my energy needs to go. That’s where the new dream is born: from the soil of that darkness.

It’s a fruitful darkness.

If we don’t resist the shadows of the New Moon —if we honor that part of the cycle—the miracle of pregnancy occurs.

During this time, we get to ask ourselves:

What needs tending?

What do I want to give my precious energy to?

What seed am I going to nurture?

And then, as the Moon slowly becomes pregnant with the Sun again, my energy begins to swell with excitement for this new seed of a project. Little by little, as the energy for that dream increases, I take the necessary steps to bring it into reality.

By the time the Full Moon arrives, I’m filled with energy and excitement. I’m ready to share my creation with the community. I feel like howling at the Moon (not literally!)—there’s such joy, accomplishment, and gratitude.

All over the world and throughout history, the Full Moon has been a time of celebration. It’s a time of completion, fullness, ripeness, sharing, and release.

It’s a yummy time!

And then, slowly, the energy wanes and recedes, allowing us to rest until it’s time for dreaming again.

It’s a beautiful cycle, truly!

And don’t you think the Earth would be more beautiful if we all followed this natural cycle of sustainable creation?

I believe so.

And I believe this is the time for that kind of radical change.

I believe we need The Moon for The Revolution.

I was born in Cuba—15 years after the Cuban Revolution—and growing up, we used to say things like “before the Revolution” and “after the Revolution.”

And since we are living through another kind of revolution now, I believe one day we’ll look back and say:

“Before the revolution, we were using the harmful Gregorian calendar.

After the revolution, we began using the sustainable Moon Calendar.”

What do you think?

That is one of my dreams.

And it’s a dream we can all nurture—collectively—when we use the Moon Calendar for our personal and communal dreams and reality creations.

May the Moon nourish you and yours today and every day.

Reverent Mariela

(Born under a Full Moon in Leo)
