About Us

Conscious Clothing began as many small business do- in a front room of a home full of small children and messes, in between nap times and bedtimes, and with a creative passion for sustainable living….
Over 15 years ago, owner and designer, Rose Phillips, noticed a void in the market and began sewing organic cloth diapers, diaper covers and clothes for her three young kids. She sold her creations in local West Michigan markets and moms quickly began inquiring about Conscious Clothing adding women’s apparel to the assortment. Rose again followed market demand and launched her Etsy shop in 2006. Together with her husband, Doug Phillips, they have grown the company in to a thriving small business.

Today, Conscious Clothing designs and makes women’s apparel and accessories, using only ethically sourced, sustainable materials. Our production, shipping and storage warehouse is in our studio in Belmont, Michigan. Sustainability and family remain our cornerstone values.

We thoughtfully designed our studio to function for our business: an inviting, light-filled space to enjoy the changing Michigan seasons while we create your garments. We proudly did much of the work ourselves and used reclaimed materials we had salvaged over the years: windows from a gas station that had been torn down, countertops and doors from a friend’s mid century modern home which was taken down, salvaged sinks for the kitchenette and bathroom, and metal cabinets from an old doctors office. All of these pieces came together to create our dream studio.

We believe in careful consumption. We value thoughtful design and strive to create timeless and modern silhouettes using quality, sustainable, long-lasting materials that can grow with our customer from season to season, as their style evolves. Creating capsule wardrobe pieces and minimalism in design remain the cornerstone of each collection as we strive to create functional clothing that works together season after season.
